Course Information

Most practice managers come to the role by being promoted from head dental nurse or brought specifically in to do the job. Many practice managers have not had any formal training for the post which leaves a majority facing a challenging role without any knowledge of management techniques and understanding of the standards and regulations required. Our L4 Advanced Diploma in Dental Practice Management delivers training to develop a portfolio of skills to enable you to carry out this demanding role. The course is practical and all that you learn can be put into use straight away.

Course Style

Our L4 Advanced Diploma in Dental Practice Management is delivered by E-qual portfolio: an academic website platform. E-qual portfolio offers a virtual learning system offering continuous access to:

Course time period

360 hours GLH (Guided Learning Hours). This means we allow a student 12 months to complete our L4 Advanced Diploma in Dental Practice Management course. 

Course structure

In order to achieve the Level 4 Advanced Diploma in Dental Practice Management you need to complete six units out of the possible eight units available.

  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Identifying training and development needs

Unit 2 – People Management in Dental Teams

  • Recognising and understanding theories and principles that affect development needs
  • Identifying staff support needs
  • Knowledge of motivational team building

Unit 3 – Managing Systems for Team Communication

  • How you communicate and support your staff
  • Planning and implementing changes within the workplace
  • Meeting the needs of the customer

Unit 4 – Practice Compliance

  • The role of Health and Safety compliance
  • The process and implementation of risk management techniques
  • The regulatory compliance of individuals and organisations

Unit 5 – Maintaining Standards

  • Legal, financial and ethical issues of managing a dental practice
  • Information and clinical governance
  • Handling complaints and grievances to effective outcomes

Unit 6 – Project Management

  • Planning, implementation & analysis of a customer survey
  • Knowledge of budget setting & project management
  • Identifying activities that lead to change and improvement
  • Identifying & comparing ways of sharing good practice

Unit 7 - Appraisals

  • Understanding the need for effective staff and self-appraisals
  • Identifying and comparing different methods of appraisal systems 
  • Knowledge of how to conduct the appraisal process

Unit 8 - Recruitment

  • Planning the recruitment process
  • Knowledge of the interview and selection process for recruitment
  • How to appoint the right candidate

As you progress through the L4 Advanced Diploma in Dental Practice Management course you will be required to carry out core reading, activities, some research and assignment writing. 


The L4 Advanced Diploma in Dental Practice Management course will require you to write an assignment for each unit. These will be marked by your tutor and they will provide you with excellent feedback.


There are none. Your final result will be based on continuous assessment.

At the end of this L4 Advanced Diploma in Dental Practice Management successful learners will be awarded a certificate of achievement by NCFE.
